Senior WordPress Developer

About the Role

We are hiring a Sr. WordPress Developer to join our engineering team in Ahmedabad. You will build custom themes, plugins, and integrations for clients across the US and internationally. Every project here is custom work, not page-builder assembly. You will own features end-to-end, from understanding the technical spec through writing the code, getting it reviewed, and shipping it to production. You will work alongside engineers who have spent over a decade in WordPress specifically, and you will be expected to hold that same standard.

What You'll Do

• Build custom WordPress themes from design files and technical specs using modern PHP, ACF Pro, and Gutenberg blocks. Write clean, maintainable code that other developers can pick up without a walkthrough.
• Develop custom WordPress plugins when project requirements go beyond what existing solutions can handle. Follow WordPress coding standards and build with security and performance in mind from the start.
• Integrate third-party services and APIs into client builds: payment gateways, CRMs, marketing automation tools, shipping providers, and custom data sources.
• Build and customize WooCommerce stores, including custom product types, checkout flows, pricing logic, and subscription setups.
• Participate in code reviews, both giving and receiving. Catch issues before they reach QA and help maintain consistent code quality across the team.
• Troubleshoot and debug complex issues on production sites. Diagnose performance bottlenecks, plugin conflicts, and server-side problems under time pressure when client sites need attention.
• Collaborate with designers and project managers to estimate effort accurately, flag technical risks early, and propose better solutions when a spec does not account for WordPress realities.

What We're Looking For

• 5 to 8 years of professional WordPress development with strong custom PHP. You build themes and plugins from scratch, not just configure page builders.
• Deep knowledge of the WordPress core APIs: custom post types, taxonomies, the Settings API, REST API, and the block editor (Gutenberg). You know when to use each and why.
• Solid experience with Advanced Custom Fields Pro, including custom field groups, flexible content layouts, and ACF blocks for Gutenberg.
• Comfortable with modern JavaScript (ES6+, React or vanilla) for building Gutenberg blocks and handling front-end interactivity.
• Experience with WooCommerce development: custom product types, checkout modifications, payment gateway integration, and store performance optimization.
• Understanding of WordPress security best practices: data sanitization, nonce verification, capability checks, and prepared SQL queries.
• Familiarity with Git-based workflows, staging environments, and deployment processes. You do not push directly to production.

Nice to Have

• Experience with headless WordPress using WPGraphQL, Next.js, or similar decoupled front-end setups.
• Hands-on work with WordPress multisite, enterprise hosting platforms (Pressable, WP Engine, Pantheon), or large-scale site networks.
• Prior agency experience where you juggled multiple client projects with different codebases and deadlines simultaneously.
• Familiarity with performance optimization: caching strategies, database query optimization, lazy loading, and Core Web Vitals tuning.
